Questions
Not unless you want it to. Darkness and heat rejection are separate dials now — a modern spectrally-selective film stays nearly clear while rejecting around half of total solar energy. The dark-equals-cool rule died a decade ago.
Usually, with the right film — but absorption-heavy films on certain dual-pane annealed glass can over-stress it. Industry practice caps total solar absorption around 50% on dual-pane annealed. We check film-to-glass compatibility on every quote and back compatible installs with manufacturer breakage warranty programs.
Honest answer: it depends on your glass, exposure, and climate. Cooling-cost reductions can be substantial on sun-hit single-pane or older glass; whole-bill savings typically land in the 5–15% range. If you already have new low-E dual panes, we'll tell you straight — you're buying comfort, glare control, and UV protection, not a payback story.
It slows it dramatically, but UV is only ~40% of what causes fading — visible light and heat drive most of the rest. Film cuts all three; nothing stops fading entirely, and anyone who promises that is selling.
